A Pines Calyx Wedding

My website: Wedding Photographer Kent

A selection of images from Kate and John's wedding photography on Saturday at The Pines Calyx, St Margaret's Bay, near Dover. For more, please check out the gallery for their wedding at The Pines Calyx or view this alternative non-Flash based gallery.

 HDR (-2, 0, +2), f/4, ISO 400, 16mm, 16-35mm f/2.8L II

Alas the clouds departed 5 minutes later and were not to be seen for the rest of the day. It was to be a wedding shoot in strong sunlight.

The bride, Kate.

There's a window in the ceiling which means that the couple were toplit. This was causing horrible shadows on their faces so I bounced flash into them from the wall behind me.

 1/200, f/2.8, ISO 100, ²⁄₃ EV, 16mm, 16-35mm f/2.8L II

 1/2000, f/2, ISO 100, ‒ ⅓ EV, 35mm f/1.4L

100 guests crammed onto a small patio area quaffing Pimms meant shooting wide and keeping my elbows in tight!

 1/250, f/2.8, ISO 100, ²⁄₃ EV, 35mm, 16-35mm f/2.8L II

I moved all the guests to open shade for the group shots and put the sun behind them.

 1/1250, f/2.8, ISO 400, 0 EV, 70mm, 70-200mm f/2.8L IS

 1/250, f/2.8, ISO 200, ‒ 1 EV, 148mm, 70-200mm f/2.8L IS

Negative exposure compensation takes care of the predominantly dark tones.

 1/640, f/2.8, ISO 100, 0 EV, 105mm, 70-200mm f/2.8L IS

Again, I positioned them with the sun behind them. In retrospect I shoud have moved them just a little further to the left - I hadn't realised that there was such a strong reflection from the leaves behind Kate's head.

While the guest ate, I went for a wander.

 HDR (-2, 0, +2), f/8, ISO 200, 16mm, 16-35mm f/2.8L II

The light was completely unsuitable for landscape photography so I resorted to HDR.

 1/500, f/2.8, ISO 100, ‒ ²⁄₃ EV, 80mm, 70-200mm f/2.8L IS

Look to the heavens!

 1/400, f/2.8, ISO 400, ‒ ⅓ EV, 148mm, 70-200mm f/2.8L IS

 HDR (-2, 0, +2), f/4, ISO 400, 35mm, 16-35mm f/2.8L II

The beautiful grounds of The Pines Calyx plus a glimpse of white cliff in the background. A wedding photographer's paradise!

 1/250, f/2.8, ISO 100, ⅓ EV, 105mm, 70-200mm f/2.8L IS

 1/160, f/2.8, ISO 500, 1 EV, 85mm f/1.2L II

 1/100, f/2.8, ISO 640, 1 EV, 16mm, 16-35mm f/2.8L II

 1/250, f/3.2, ISO 1600, ⅓ EV, 16mm, 16-35mm f/2.8L II

The wedding breakfast room was also quite cosy so I had to wander about carefully.

 1/500, f/2, ISO 1250, 1 EV, 85mm f/1.2L II

The best man working his magic.

1/80, f/2.8, ISO 1250, ⅓ EV, 195mm, 70-200mm f/2.8L IS

1/320, f/2.8, ISO 1250, ⅓ EV, 140mm, 70-200mm f/2.8L IS

And it's farewell to Kate and John who, apparently, boogied on well into the night!

These are lovely shots with some challenging lighting. I'm shooting a wedding at The Pines Calyx in September and am very much looking forward to it!
