Sarah & Westley's Wedding

My website: Wedding Photographers in Kent

A selection of images from Sarah and Westley's recent wedding at Lympne Castle - please check out their wedding gallery.

HDR (-2, 0, +2), f/8, ISO 400, 16mm, 16-35mm f/2.8L II

Too much sun? Too much contrast? Then you need high dynamic range (HDR).

1/320, f/3.2, ISO 200, 0 EV, 35mm f/1.4L

Something blue and an aide-memoire for Sarah in case she couldn't remember her bridesmaids' names.

1/400, f/1.8, ISO 400, ‒ ⅓ EV, 85mm f/1.2L II

1/40, f/3.2, ISO 400, 1 ²⁄₃ EV, 35mm f/1.4L

Check out that exposure compensation (EC). They'd have been silhouetted if I'd let the camera determine the exposure.

1/60, f/2.5, ISO 800, 0 EV, 35mm f/1.4L

Westley putting the finishing touches to his mother-in-law jokes.

1/320, f/4, ISO 200, ‒ ²⁄₃ EV, 35mm f/1.4L

1/4000, f/2.8, ISO 100, ‒ ²⁄₃ EV, 200mm, 70-200mm f/2.8L IS

1/500, f/4, ISO 640, ‒ 1 EV, 16mm, 16-35mm f/2.8L II

1/400, f/4, ISO 400, ‒ ²⁄₃ EV, 35mm, 16-35mm f/2.8L II

The couple are being nicely illuminated by a window but the rest of the room is poorly lit. Negative EC stops them being over-exposed.

1/800, f/8, ISO 200, ‒ ²⁄₃ EV, 35mm, 16-35mm f/2.8L II

The shot of everyone had to be done in direct sunlight....

1/1000, f/2.8, ISO 200, 0 EV, 35mm f/1.4L

...but the group shots were taken in open shade.

1/5000, f/4, ISO 200, ‒ 1 EV, 35mm f/1.4L

1/1000, f/2, ISO 200, 0 EV, 35mm f/1.4L

1/200, f/4.5, ISO 400, ‒ ²⁄₃ EV, 27mm, 16-35mm f/2.8L II

1/125, f/5, ISO 640, ‒ ²⁄₃ EV, 28mm, 16-35mm f/2.8L II

If you shoot at Lympne Castle you need to know about this room (The Sitting Room or Harry's Room). Lovely light on the sunniest of days. We had to ask for the armchair.

1/400, f/2.8, ISO 640, ‒ 1 EV, 35mm f/1.4L

1/320, f/1.8, ISO 200, ‒ ²⁄₃ EV, 85mm f/1.2L II

Natural light only.

1/800, f/1.2, ISO 500, ⅓ EV, 85mm f/1.2L II

1/100, f/2.8, ISO 640, ‒ ⅓ EV, 35mm f/1.4L

Westley having second thoughts about those mother-in-law jokes.

1/200, f/2.8, ISO 500, ‒ 1 EV, 85mm f/1.2L II

I do enjoy a bit of rim-lighting.

Any comments or queries are most welcome.

Sarah & Westley's Wedding

My website: Wedding Photographers in Kent

I had the pleasure of photographing Sarah and Westley's wedding yesterday at Lympne Castle. And phew, what a scorcher! (in the language of the tabloids) - it was roasting hot. Fortunately I know where all the nice light hangs out at Lympne Castle even when the sun is shining ferociously.

I've finished post-processing their images - please check out their wedding gallery.

A Cooling Castle Wedding

My website: Wedding Photographers in Kent

A selection of images from Sara and Pete's recent wedding at Cooling Castle Barn. Please check out their wedding gallery.

HDR (-2, 0, +2), f/6.4, ISO 200, 16mm, 16-35mm f/2.8L II

1/200, f/1.8, ISO 320, ⅓ EV, 35mm f/1.4L

1/160, f/2.8, ISO 640, ²⁄₃ EV, 35mm f/1.4L

1/4000, f/2.8, ISO 200, ‒ ⅓ EV, 200mm, 70-200mm f/2.8L IS

A moot point but it's certainly a distinctive tattoo.

1/40, f/2.8, ISO 1000, 2 EV, 26mm, 16-35mm f/2.8L II

Notice the additional two stops of positive exposure compensation (EC) to prevent this being a silhouette shot.

1/400, f/2.8, ISO 400, ‒ ⅓ EV, 23mm, 16-35mm f/2.8L II

I did a few trial shots before the ceremony as others walked up and down the stairs. Only a surprisingly small tweak to exposure was required for this shot. No highlights were lost in the process!

1/125, f/2.8, ISO 1600, 1 EV, 16mm, 16-35mm f/2.8L II

1/200, f/1.8, ISO 1600, 1 EV, 35mm f/1.4L

1/160, f/2, ISO 400, 1 EV, 85mm f/1.2L II

1/125, f/2.5, ISO 400, ‒ ⅓ EV, 85mm f/1.2L II

1/2500, f/1.8, ISO 200, 0 EV, 85mm f/1.2L II

1/6400, f/1.2, ISO 200, 0 EV, 85mm f/1.2L II

1/3200, f/1.8, ISO 200, 0 EV, 85mm f/1.2L II

1/250, f/1.4, ISO 400, ⅓ EV, 35mm f/1.4L

I hadn't realised that these self-help guides for the young existed!

Comments and queries welcome as ever.

A Tenterden Wedding

My website: Wedding Photographers in Kent

A selection of images from Caroline and Phil's wedding that I photographed recently in Sandhurst, near Tenterden. Please check out their wedding gallery

HDR (-2, 0, +2), f/6.4, ISO 400, 16mm, 16-35mm f/2.8L II

Exposing for the building left the sky pure white - HDR to the rescue.

HDR (-2, 0, +2), f/6.4, ISO 400, 16mm, 16-35mm f/2.8L II

1/250, f/1.2, ISO 1600, ‒ ²⁄₃ EV, 85mm f/1.2L II

The light coming in through the church's main window was fabulous. I asked Phil to stand in the 'sweet spot'. Notice the use of negative exposure compensation.

1/800, f/2.8, ISO 200, 0 EV, 35mm f/1.4L

1/125, f/2.8, ISO 3200, 0 EV, 140mm, 70-200mm f/2.8L IS

The church was dimly lit. Time to switch to ISO 3200. Modern camera technology is liberating.

1/200, f/2, ISO 1000, 1 EV, 85mm f/1.2L II

Positive EC to compensate for the bright background.

1/80, f/2.8, ISO 2000, 1 EV, 85mm f/1.2L II

1/160, f/3.5, ISO 2000, ⅓ EV, 35mm f/1.4L

1/100, f/3.5, ISO 1000, ²⁄₃ EV, 35mm, 16-35mm f/2.8L II

1/50, f/2.8, ISO 2000, 1 EV, 16mm, 16-35mm f/2.8L II

1/400, f/1.8, ISO 50, ‒ ²⁄₃ EV, 35mm f/1.4L

1/1000, f/1.4, ISO 400, ‒ ⅓ EV, 35mm f/1.4L

1/640, f/1.2, ISO 1600, ‒ 1 EV, 85mm f/1.2L II

No additional Photoshop work was required for this one. The background was very dark!

1/100, f/2.2, ISO 1600, 0 EV, 0 FEC, 35mm, 35mm f/1.4L

The evidence, m'lud.

1/40, f/1.4, ISO 3200, 1 ²⁄₃ EV, 35mm f/1.4L

Very low light and almost two stops of positive EC. Thank goodness for fast prime lenses.

1/250, f/2.2, ISO 400, ‒ ²⁄₃ EV, 35mm f/1.4L

1/320, f/1.4, ISO 200, 0 EV, 35mm f/1.4L
