I rarely write technical commentary on my images these days (due to time constraints) but I thought this was worth sharing. The image above shows the main hall prepared for the ceremony. The couple will obviously be standing at the end of the aisle of chairs facing the fireplace. Notice that the couple will be sidelit from both sides of the hall and that they will be facing a dark area which reflects only a small amount of light. There is, however, an almost white area of wall above which represents an opportunity to light the couple by bouncing flashlight.

Here's a shot taken at the beginning of the ceremony using just natural light. The sidelighting is dominant with much less light being reflected into their faces. And the light that is reflected has a strong colour cast due to the dark wood panels and the tungsten lights (though these are quite low powered).

And now with flash being bounced over my shoulder and off the white wall behind. All fully automated using E-TTL which has reduced the ambient exposure, reducing the impact of the dominant sidelighting, and then lit them perfectly with flash light.

And again. I'm always surprised by photographers who claim they only shoot with natural light. It doesn't happen that often but sometimes the light needs a helping hand!
